The open room at the top of the stairs

The Loft is the most flexible sleeping space in the house, and the one groups end up using in ways we did not predict.

There is a king bed and three single beds, which means it can be a room for a family of five, a room for four teenagers who have decided they are a unit now, or a room for two with a great deal of spare space. It shares the upstairs balcony with the Blue Room — a good place to end up around nine at night, once the pool has cleared and the desert has cooled.

What it is good for

Being open and central, the Loft tends to become the in-between space on a big week: the older cousins who have aged out of the bunk room but have not aged out of wanting to be near everybody, or the grandparents who want to be upstairs with the noise rather than tucked away from it.

It is also the room most often left half-empty on smaller bookings, which nobody has ever complained about.
